New Location

I have found a new location and I think its the most beautiful unusual place I have kind of seen.
Its a small size terrace with towering white painted walls, the floor is cover dressed in years and years of mose but the most special thing is the outdoor furniture that was once beautiful but has aged, this reminds of Tom's Midnight Garden but time has completely stopped.

Style of Executing Oedipus (Working Title)

Because the opening of the film shows two era’s:

The first: in the 1950’s of Gillians world

The second: in the 1970s of Caitlins world.

Gillian opening scenes will be Black and White where else Caitlins will be colour in the context of 8mm film – look. The reason why is because I would like the audience to be feeling the time space and perhaps a feel on time travelling themselves. Also, I if you look at Pleasantville it uses the same effect towards audience, only from Colour to Black and White.
Also, I wanted to create a visual outstanding like Jimarsh, where you walk through a door but end up in another ere and time. But Gillian also walks into colour: Not like the 8mm colour but a Video colour which shows the present time and she does act surprised with this.
I think also, it is a great way to introduce the dream in a magical realistic sense.
Gillian’s happy innocence where you sings freely in the bathroom and how she has a imaginary energy when she talks to her dolly Suzy about needing to go to the bathroom in the dark is her own conscience talking to herself to be brave. This part of the writing was inspired by Terry Gilliams, “Tideland”
How it will sound like:
I would like to create the dream scene a high auscotic sound to create coldness and emptiness, in the script you hear the sound on the water dripping which Gillian concentrates on to avoid contact with Caitlin. The reason, is because I want to interpretate to the audience of the lack of communication between Caitlin and Gillian. So the sound of the water dripping is a sense of filling the uncomfortable silence between themselves. You ever had those uncomfortable silences with somebody and you want a sound to bust through the door or a pin to drop? That’s what I mean.

Brief Synopsis

This film examines the themes of parents and their children miscommunications. Taught through Magical Realism.

A insight between a mother and child’s failure to communicate blinds the true bond between a mother and child.
8 years old Gillian wakes in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, only she steps into another room, space and time. Her dream. Accompanied by hostile women named Caitlin which becomes clear is saddened by her relationship with her own mother.
Gillian who is weary of Caitlin refuses to give her identity to Caitlin when ask for her name.
Gradually opening up to Caitlin and wanting the dream to past quicker, Gillian makes small talk with Caitlin mainly to do with each others family.
They realise they pose the opposite of each other: from their upbringing, their parents and of the expectations they have for them.
Realising something is wrong when Caitlin founds out that Gillian’s older brother is called, Ernest, Caitlin has a Uncle called Ernest. Jerry is Gillian’s second older brother, Caitlin’s second oldest uncle is called Jerry. Revealing the last name, Caitlin asks for Gillian’s name o)ne more time and Gillian finally tells her.
Shocked that this is not Gillian dream but herself. Realising that this is a lesson for her. Before Gillian walks back into the door where she came from to depart, Gillian spots a someone watching them from the other side of the room. A familiar face she recognises Gillian smiles.
They have been watch, a figure standing in bare feet and a loose night gown, both hands on it stomach holding their unborn child.
We look up to her face and see that the women is Caitlin from the present watching her dream with a softer face. She smiles on in relief.

Executing Oedipus (Working title)

I have been reading alot about Greek Mythology for my screenwriting Module and it just happens that whilst I was writing my final script for Media Arts MDA3909. It was the first two words on my mind. Its a working title for now because it has nothing to do with the various stories of Oedipus nor a story about Sigmund Freud's theory about Oedipus. But it needs to be changed soon.

Just a few updates that I will be writing about through a couple of posts coming on the way:

Sound and Space

Firstly, I hope you had a fantastical Christmas!

I have spent the whole boxing day sitting on the sofa and didn't really budge except for mother nature. I did something today that I have not done for such a long time: I did the couch potatoe thing.

OH YEAH, did it feel good?? We bought down our duvets to the living room, plenty of Chocolate selections and all curled up on our sofas. Even better we watch 6 films on the trot. Ahhhh!

But what the film striked me was Steve McQueen's, "Hunger."
Its the second time I have watch it and its still one of my favourites. Maybe because before I attended Middlesex Uni, I was from a Experimental film background.
javascript:void(0)
For me, "Hunger" interpretates space but in a experimental cinema. And it the reason why is has striked me to write this here is because my final project (Module MDA3909) that while I write, imagine and think of the idea, visually I keep on visualising the attention of space. What I mean by this is that McQueen concentrates on small details but drawing us to apprecaite these fine details to be a great work of art.

But its not only this, its how McQueen plays with the sounds: the power of contrasting silence and concentrated sound.

Wow Wow Weeeee.

I saw a brilliant film last night from SeeFilm First.

I liked it sooo much I googled it again. Never before have I observed an average family to be so interesting. Average I mean by, painful teenagers, coming of age, sibling favoritism's, getting old and then bereavement.

At first, I thought it was a reverse effect of American Beautiful. Where in this film there don't hide there feelings or pretend to be someone else.

But then the more I think of the film the more I'm thinking of Caché by Michael Haneke (God, help me or God help that film.)
Personally, I'm not much of a Caché fan. Possibly because of the theories about the under linning interpretation of the Algerian conflict with France. Actually, its not that at all. Its because I hated the characters in Caché, yes all of them and even the boy. Blah!

Which makes me like "The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life" even more. Because for me it is exactly the opposite of Caché family. I like it because the Duval family expose issues openly and deal with it openly. It was beautiful, charming and well documented piece.

Hopeful, it'll make it through and kick Haneke off.

"Le premier jour du reste de ta vie" or "The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life"

Screenwriting CMW3002

So I'm writing about a mans Transition from a man to a Phoenix Bird. A Reincarnation.

In order to help me write the description of the bird, I thought the best way to do this was to draw the bird.
Only, it didn't come out a a Phoenix. I find it frustrating for me when drawing. Because it seems only my brain only seems to want to draw something else, never what I visualise in mind.

So instead, I drew a doodoo / Peacock whatever it was , it was not what I want it to be - a Phoenix!
